Radisson Blu expands in Cameroon, plans to build hotel in Yaoundé

CAMEROON – Radisson Blu hotel has started plans to build a new hotel in the country’s capital and second largest city, Yaoundé.

Plans to start the project have already received a green light from the government which in early September signed a partnership agreements with representatives from the hotel.

In the partnership agreement, the government of Cameroon agreed to lease the hotel a 2-hectar piece of land for a period of 30 years.

The partnership agreement was signed by Cameroon’s minister for land affairs, Hon. Henri Eyebe Ayissi and Elfallahi Rahima Dina, Belgian group IIDG/Hôtel Group’s director for Africa, and Franck Marie Ronald Smolders, administrator of IIDG and co-manager of “Hôtels et résidences du Cameroun Sarl.”   

With the partnership signed, the hotel will now embark on building its second hotel in one of the strongest economies in central Africa.

The first is already under construction in Douala, Cameroon’s largest city, and operations at the facility are expected to commence before the end of the first quarter of 2021.

According to Henri Eyebe Ayissi, the said project is a luxurious futuristic hotel complex of 25 storeys, and 7-storey Yacht-shaped annexe.

The annexe will host a 5-star hotel with at least 300 rooms, swimming pools, and various sports and entertainment equipment.

The US$ 132.34 million investment is also expected to host International-standard restaurants and shops.

Radisson Hotel Group is one of the world’s largest hotel groups with eight distinctive hotel brands.

The African Sub-division of the group has more than 90 hotels that combined play host to more than 18,000 rooms.

The two establishments in Cameroon are in line with the group’s goal of managing 130 hotels that have over 23,000 rooms in the content by 2022.
