Egypt partners USAID in the development of 5 diverse projects worth US$105M

EGYPT – Egypt and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have partnered on the development of five future projects with a total value of $ 105 million, the Ministry of International Cooperation has revealed.

Earlier,  government of Egypt had secured a total of US$12.37million (LE 200 million) from the Saudi Arabia Grant Committee to finance projects in agriculture health and SME sectors of the economy.

The ministry explained that one of the Egypt – USAID projects will involve supporting women economically and socially while another will work towards empowerment of girls.

Other projects in the partnership between Egypt and USAID include automation of governmental services and digitizing government services, moving to the new administrative capital, and development of economic courts.

 These projects according to Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation will be in addition to the new cooperation strategy between the two countries for the next five years.

Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat in a statement emphasized that the USAID is a strategic partner of the Egyptian government in a number of development projects in sectors such as health, education, women’s economic empowerment, and agriculture.

She pointed the Ministry of International Cooperation was keen to coordinate with the USAID to align the new cooperation strategy between the two countries with Egypt’s development priorities and sustainable development goals.

For her part, the Director of the USAID said that the United States Agency t is committed to increasing its investments in women’s economic and social empowerment in Egypt and gender equality, in order to alleviate negative economic impacts coronavirus on women.

The total current portfolio between Egypt and USAID amounts to about $1 billion through bilateral agreements in a number of fields inclduing fields of agriculture, education, and health, and through the Egyptian American Business Fund to support small and medium enterprises.
